Like most guys, I’m a huge fan of martial arts films. Recently, while watching a film, I read a Bruce Lee quote that made me pause and consider his life from a different perspective. When you hear the name Bruce Lee, entrepreneur is not the first word that comes to mind.

However, before he was a world famous actor and pop culture icon, he was in fact an entrepreneur. During the 60’s, he opened and operated several martial art schools in Seattle and Oakland and was focused on teaching martial arts until the glitz and glam of Hollywood came calling.

The quote that jarred my thinking was, “To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.” This is an extremely powerful statement from an entrepreneurial stand point, it conveys with passion the necessity to control your own success.

While meditating on the man and this quote five mindsets for successful entrepreneurs came to mind.

1) The mindset of a student

Education is critical to success in a number of things, this is especially true with regard to entrepreneurship. An entrepreneur must not only learn their desired industry (preferably in the pre-venture stage) but also, adopt an attitude of continuous learning.

Changes in life and work are inevitable. To be successful, an entrepreneur has to be committed to continuously learning new techniques, processes, or strategies to improve the operation of their business. How can you stay ahead of your competition if, you don’t stay informed.

2) The mindset of a rebel

The idea that an entrepreneur has to have a rebellious nature isn’t particularly new. However, many people fail to grasp the opportunity to become entrepreneurs simply because they are afraid to challenge the status quo.

To be a successful entrepreneur, a person has to be willing to give themselves permission to break away from the establishment and pursue new opportunities and approaches.

If you’ve never been told it’s ok to buck the system, I’ll say it to you now: Be a rebel, DO NOT waste that great idea, don’t let fear hold you back, ignore the nay-sayers and conformists, break away from the pack, and find your own path to happiness and career success.

3) The mindset of a visionary

A visionary is able to see what others can’t. To be a successful entrepreneur, a person must embrace the visionary mindset by seizing or creating opportunities before competitors even see them.

Developing this focused vision, allows successful entrepreneurs to aggressively take action on perceived opportunities and gather external support for their vision often producing game-changing impacts.

4) The mindset of a warrior

A warrior is someone who embraces conflict, challenges fear, and false beliefs. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, there’s nothing glamorous about struggling to progress an idea from inception into an organization.

From day one, you can be absolutely certain that your patience, mental and physical health, financial commitment, and convictions will be sorely tested.

To be a successful entrepreneur, a person has to be willing to embrace the warrior mindset; by courageously fighting against fear (their own and others), and be steadfast in their commitment to realize their dream.

5) The mindset of a strategist

Today’s unpredictable business environment makes it extremely difficult to conceptualize and employ the right tactics to keep your organization competitive.

Successful entrepreneurs embrace the mindset of a strategist by focusing not on what is but, on what could be, and using new technologies and techniques to overcome the odds. This requires taking calculated risks based on incomplete information and the willingness to be flexible and quickly shift strategies.

If entrepreneurship is your calling, begin the process by learning your desired industry, give yourself permission to challenge the status quo, seizing new opportunities, challenge your fears and be steadfast in fighting for your convictions.

What other mindsets do you think will be helpful on your journey? If you are already an entrepreneur, what mindsets have you adopted to help you become successful and maintain that success?

Growing up you were told that you had to study and that if you wanted to make it in this world you needed to get a degree and a job.

A lot of people have a job which they don’t like, they are in the job complaining about it but they don’t leave it.

If you love your job, that is fantastic, and a lot of people do; you only hate your job when you are in resistance to your job.

There are 7 ways to love what you do and make a living out of it.

Take a 100% responsibility for where you find yourself

It is nobody’s job to love you, only for you to love yourself a 100%. Many people feel that they are victim of circumstance. They feel that somebody is doing something to them.

Once you realize that you have to take responsibility for where you find yourself, then you can move into taking action because your thoughts change your perspective. Thoughts hold tremendous power, but the next step is ACTION.

It’s now or never

Love what you do

Your passion is your true work in disguise. Every day you wake up and you feel great, you have a smile on your face because you are doing what your heart resonates with.

A lot of times when we don’t love what we do, the work we produce is not excellent. Once you have passion, you produce better work.

Multiple streams of income

That is how to turn your 9-5 into a 24 hour holiday. A lot of people think that money is a deadly word. Money is only a tool, it is a medium of exchange.

Your attitude to money, is money’s attitude to you. If you have a negative attitude, you find that you will always live in lack because abundance is our natural state. A lot of people are surviving when they don’t have to, they are struggling, they are in a job which is just over broke.

Money only gives you more of what you already have. This is liberating because you see that it’s not the money which is important, it’s whether or not you are comfortable doing what you do.

When you go to work, it is the label they are paying you for because money has no value, therefore we are the currency we are working for.

Sensitivity

Sensitivity is the key to your inner freedom. Once you become sensitive, you feel the subtle energy around you.

Becoming sensitive frees us, it becomes our inner guidance system. Too many people have become desensitised.

Offer a service

Once you can share your own knowledge and wisdom, you will forever live in abundance. A lot of people just say that they want to follow their hearts, but how can they generate financial revenue from that?

You have to cultivate your talents and gifts and see what service you can provide that can help you become the greatest version of yourself and other people too. Once you do what you love, helping other people becomes a by-product.

Study everything but study yourself first

Are you studying everyday about your passion? Are you getting closer to your desired goal?

Surround yourself with like-minded people

Surround yourself with people who share your same vision, people who help uplift you. Connect with people who remind you who you are.

But be careful who you share your dreams with. It is nobody’s job to love you, only for you to love yourself a 100%. Once you love yourself a 100% you move into the direction of your true passion.

Many of us are tired of doing the same thing. We have to break the pattern, the routine. To create the lifestyle that you want, you have to never be afraid to venture into the new.

You have to realize that you are deserving for the life that you choose to live.

Nobody is listening. We always feel that people are listening to the words coming out of our mouth. In reality people are not captivated by what you say, but they are captivated by your energy. It is never what you say, it’s the energy behind that matters.

Makes sure that you are calm before you start talking. It takes the pressure off. If there was a single public speaking tip, that would be to listen to your voice, your rhythm and your pace. Many people talk too fast and that’s why they become nervous.

Once you slow down you tune into your energy; and when people listen to you they have an emotional connection that hits them right in the stomach. Nobody is listening to you, they are feeling you.

Here are 5 essential public speaking tips that you have to practice if you want to become am incredible speaker.

Keep it simple

It doesn’t matter how many books you’ve read or how intelligent you want to sound by showing all of the data and research that you’ve done.

Slow down instead. Make sure that you are expressing how you really feel. You have to realize that it’s not about what you say but how you say it. But mostly, if you enjoy what you are talking about.

Confidence

With public speaking comes fear, doubt and disbelief. Confidence can be expressed in the voice. Confidence is knowing what you are talking about.

Don’t just talk about what you don’t know what you are talking about

Study your subject matter to the core and know who you are talking to. Also, you have to remember that nervousness is contagious. If you are nervous, who’s listening to you will feel the same. When you relax, people relax.

Whenever you are doing public speaking, you always have to trust yourself. The reason why so many people feel nervous when they are talking publicly is because they doubt themselves, and that comes across in the message they are sharing.
Confidence is all about the message.

Get Personal

It’s not about being super emotional. It’s about being super authentic. The more you tune into your true authenticity, the more people can relate to you. The more you share your experiences and life stories, and not just researched data, the more people will be captivated to you.

Getting personal is not easy. You have to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. The more you open up, the more other people open up to you. Being personal is about letting go.

Take risk

Once you loosen the body, it allows your voice to convey your true message. The diction, the tone of your voice. These things play a powerful role in public speaking. Public speaking is not about just playing it safe.

There is always something that you want to talk about but you are scared. When you can talk about what you are afraid to talk about, that becomes captivating and that is what so many people are interested in. Once you start to take risk once, then you can do it twice, and now you have even more confidence with your public speaking.

Have fun

When you smile, people smile. When you frown, people frown. Whatever energy you are experiencing, it’s the same energy other people are. Obviously you can’t control other people. Whenever you are publicly speaking always ask yourself, “How is my own energetic state?”.

To have fun is not about showing everyone how perfect you are. Great public speaking is about exposing your flaws, being able to laugh at yourself but also enjoying the actual experience instead of the outcome.

Public speaking is not about convincing, it’s about sharing and giving another perspective. Don’t forget to smile and to remind yourself why you are doing it.
